You’re a guy...which means you don’t know a lot about diamonds. In fact, you probably don’t really care that much about them. You know important stuff like the NCAA brackets, box scores, draft picks, and the rule your buddy has to abide by should his drive fall short of the ladies tee. Let’s face it, you wouldn’t really care about diamonds if you weren’t expected to get one for the woman of your dreams. But you are...and so you care...and that's why you're reading this.

Learn a bit about the 4C’s so you understand what they are and why it matters to the final price of a diamond...and then stop. (The link above is to my store's website...but this information is all over the Internet.) In a nutshell the 4C’s will help you gauge whether or not the diamond you are interested in warrants the money you have to part with to get it. That's it. Nothing more.

They describe some of the characteristics of a particular diamond as well as the relative rarity...but that's where it ends. The fewer there is of the something...for example a huge, rare diamond...the more valuable that something is. If you want one of the few...you'll need to pay more for it. That's how you should use the Four C's.

Real Question Posed to Me: Why do I even have to give her an engagement ring?
My Answer: You’ve just finished a great steak, your 3rd pint of Guinness, and an obligatory round of high fives because the good guys won the game. You're in a crowded sports bar which is clearly one of the best places to indulge in the age-old sport of people watching.
A casual glance over your shoulder pushes your senses up an entire octave. There she is, an exotic beauty with legs “up to here.” She’s the kind of woman that garners admiring stares from men and women alike. Confident. Alluring. Tight body. Probably smells good too.
So what keeps other men at bay? It’s the little sparkler on her left hand, third finger. A geek filter that says, “I have someone that I love, who loves me back. Game over, fella’s.”
Therein lies the power of diamonds set in a ring, given from a man to woman as a symbol of their commitment. THAT'S why you give her an engagement ring.
